Vernissage Giro Rosa - Foto F.OSSOLA (2).JPG

The Team presentation of the 29th edition of the Giro Rosa has taken place this afternoon in Piazza Garibaldi, Verbania – Pallanza, along the Lake Maggiore. The athletes will fight for the Pink Jersey from tomorrow, Friday 6th July to Sunday 15th July and most of the biggest names are here for this huge target: without the last winner Anna Van der Breggen, Megan Guarnier (USA) is the Boels – Dolmans Cycling Team captain (she won the Giro here in Verbania in 2016. Elisa Longo Borghini is the home favorite and indeed one of the top Italians at the start. The others are Annemiek Van Vleuten, Ashleigh Moolman Pasio, Amanda Spratt, Marianne Vos (back at the Giro after four years) and Katarzyna “Kasia” Niewiadoma. Numerous authorities came at the event, and a huge number of international journalists and photographers are announced to follow the entire race.

The 2018 Giro Rosa UCI Women’s World Tour is one of the hardest ever: after the Team Time Trial of tomorrow in Verbania (in attachment the start order, first team Conceria Zabri – Fanini at 4:15 PM), the race will be in Ovada for a stage which is divided in two circuits. the Stage 3 is flat on the roads of Corbetta (Milan) and the number 4 is at Giorgia Bronzini home: start and finish in Piacenza, passing on its hills. The Verbano – Cusio – Ossola area hosts the Stage 5 in Omegna: here the race will find its first important troubles, which are “a taste” of what will happen from the following day in Valtellina: The Giro Rosa will have two relevant stages in the Province of Sondrio, the Sovico – Gerola Alta and the Uphill Individual Time Trial Lanzada – Diga di Campo Moro (highest point of the Giro at 2,000 meters after a climb of 15 kms and 1,000 meters of height difference). The San Giorgio di Perlena (Fara Vicentino) – Breganze is on the home roads of Tatiana Guderzo and many other athletes born and grown up in this area. The Rosina climb is one of the key points of this stage. The big final is in Friuli: the queen stage, Tricesimo – Monte Zoncolan. The “Kaiser” is climbed on the terrible western side, starting from Ovaro and finishing after 10.1 kms of climb, 1200 meters of height difference, average slope 11.9%, highest slope 22%: numbers to be scared! The Giro will end the day after in Cividale del Friuli, Sunday 15th July: there is still one climb that make the result still unsure, to San Leonardo.
