STAGE AND FINAL VICTORY FOR AN IMPRESSIVE ANNEMIEK VAN VLEUTEN

Dutch champion Annemiek Van Vleuten wins the 29 del “Giro Rosa U.C.I. Women’s World Tour”. The time trial World Champion dominated also the tenth and last stage, arriving alone at the finish in Cividale del Friuli. Behind  Mitchelton Scott’s athlete finished the compatriot Lucinda Brand (Team Sunweb) and the Polish of Canyon SRAM Racing Katarzyna Niewiadoma, both with 27’’ of gap.

The first breakway started after few km with a group made by the World Champion Chantal Blaak (Boels Dolmans Cycling), the Italian Elena Cecchini (Canyon Sram Racing) who was running in her homeland with a lot of fans for her on the roads, and others 11 athletes. The maximum gap has been of 3’ and the bunch chased the escape only on the first kms of the GPM of I Cat. located at Trivio, where the Pink Jersey started her action for the final victory in Cividale.

In the general classification, Van Vleuten won ahead the South African Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio (Cervelo-Bigla Pro Cycling) and the teammate  Amanda Spratt, that wears the Green Jersey. Van Vleuten won also the Overall Points Classification, wearing the Cyclamine Jersey, the Italian Elisa Longo Borghini (Wiggle High5) has been the best of Italians wearing the Blue Jersey and Sofia Bertizzolo (Astana Women’s Team) won the young classification, wearing the White Jersey. TAPPA E VITTORIA FINALE PER UNA STRARIPANTE ANNEMIEK VAN VLEUTEN

E’ la fuoriclasse olandese Annemiek Van Vleuten la vincitrice finale dell’edizione numero 29 del “Giro Rosa U.C.I. Women’s World Tour”. La campionessa del mondo in carica contro il tempo ha dominato anche la decima ed ultima frazione della corsa rosa, giungendo sul traguardo di Cividale del Friuli in perfetta solitudine. Alle spalle della portacolori del team Mitchelton Scott ha distanziato ancora una volta nettamente tutte le rivali, relegando sui restanti gradini del podio la forte connazionale olandese Lucinda Brand (Team Sunweb) e la polacca del team Canyon SRAM Racing Katarzyna Niewiadoma, distanziate di 27 secondi.

La competizione è stata caratterizzata dalla lunga fuga di un drappello di 13 atlete, tra cui la campionessa del mondo in carica Chantal Blaak (Boels Dolmans Cycling) e la padrona di casa Elena Cecchini (Canyon Sram Racing), osannata dal folto pubblico friulano presente. Il tentativo del gruppetto al comando, che ha accumulato un vantaggio massimo di tre minuti, è stato annullato sulle prime rampe del G.P.M. di prima categoria di Trivio, dove la maglia rosa si è involata in perfetta solitudine verso il traguardo.

In classifica generale la Van Vleuten si è lasciata alle spalle la sudafricana Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio (Cervelo-Bigla Pro Cycling) e la compagna di squadra Amanda Spratt, vincitrice della maglia verde di miglior scalatrice. La Van Vleuten si è portata a casa anche la speciale classifica a punti indossando la maglia ciclamino, la piemontese di Ornavasso Elisa Longo Borghini (Wiggle High5) è risultata la più forte tra le italiane vestendo la maglia blu, mentre Sofia Bertizzolo (Astana Women’s Team) ha primeggiato nella speciale graduatoria riservata alle giovani, vincendo la maglia bianca. ANNEMIEK VAN VLEUTEN TAMES THE “KAISER” ZONCOLAN

Historical day for Women Cycling, the 9^th stage of “Giro Rosa U.C.I. WWT” climbed for the first time the “Kaiser” – Zoncolan from the terrible side of Ovaro. Annemiek Van Vleuten was dominating at this point not only the stage but also the whole Giro. The Mitchelton Scott’s cyclist, time trial World Champion and Pink Jersey from the individual uphill time trial to Campo Moro Dam, arrived with a lead of 40’’ from a determined Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio (Cervelo-Bigla Pro Cycling), the only one who has tried to climb Zoncolan with her, and with 3’ on her teammate Amanda Spratt.

Van Vleuten booked with this result the final victory, increasing the gap on the second one at 3’35’’ (Moolman-Pasio) and with about 6’ on Amanda Spratt, who still leads the GPM classification. Van Vleuten is also the new Cyclamine jersey, Italian Sofia Bertizzolo (Astana Women’s Team) defended the White jersey from Nadia Quagliotto (G.S. Top Girls Fassa Bortolo) attack, and the Olympic bronze medal Elisa Longo Borghini (Wiggle High5), 9^th in the overall classification, is the best of the Italian riders. ANNEMIEK VAN VLEUTEN DOMA ANCHE IL “KAISER” ZONCOLAN

Giornata storica per il ciclismo femminile, che nell’ottava frazione del “Giro Rosa U.C.I. WWT” ha scalato per la prima volta il leggendario “kaiser” Zoncolan dal terribile versante di Ovaro. Il successo è stato conquistato da un’irresistibile Annemiek Van Vleuten, autentica dominatrice della corsa rosa. La portacolori del team Mitchelton Scott, campionessa del mondo contro il tempo e maglia rosa dopo il trionfo nella cronoscalata alle Dighe di Campo Moro, ha distanziato di 40 secondi una tenace Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio (Cervelo-Bigla Pro Cycling), unica atleta in grado di arginare lo strapotere della fuoriclasse olandese, e di quasi tre minuti la compagna di squadra Amanda Spratt.

La Van Vleuten ha così ipotecato il successo finale dell’edizione numero 29 della corsa di patron Rivolta, portando il suo vantaggio in classifica generale a 3’35’’ sulla Moolman-Pasio e a quasi sei minuti su Amanda Spratt, sempre leader delle scalatrici. Grazie a questo successo la Van Vleuten è balzata anche al comando della graduatoria a punti, l’azzurra Sofia Bertizzolo (Astana Women’s Team) ha difeso la maglia bianca dall’assalto di Nadia Quagliotto (G.S. Top Girls Fassa Bortolo), mentre il bronzo olimpico Elisa Longo Borghini (Wiggle High5), nona nella classifica generale, è sempre la migliore azzurra. MARIANNE VOS IS BACK TO ROAR AT THE GIRO ROSA

Marianne Vos is back! The Dutch “super talent” won the 8th stage of “Giro Rosa U.C.I. WWT”, from San Giorgio di Perlena (Fara Vicentino) to Breganze of 126,2 km. The Women European champion, who won for three times the ride organized by Giuseppe Rivolta and hasn’t been at the start of the last three editions, arrived first in the sprint with the Italian Elisa Longo Borghini (Wiggle High5) coming from Ornavasso and the compatriot of Team Sunweb Lucinda Brand, who escaped in the last km of the stage after the GPM of San Giorgio di Perlena at about 10km to the finish.

The race has been hard since the first km, due to the high pace of the bunch going to the famous Rosina hill. The decisive escape arrived only at few km to the finish, with the three riders that came to the final sprint for the win. The sprint of the second group, lead by the Pink jersey was won by the two times World Champion Giorgia Bronzini (Cylance Pro Cycling), just before Soraya Paladin from Cimadolmo (Alè Cipollini) and the young riders classification leader Sofia Bertizzolo (Astana Women’s Team).

Nothing has changed in the overall classification, where Annemiek Van Vleuten (Mitchelton Scott) still wears the Pink jersey. Marianne Vos (Waowdeals Pro Cycling Team), is the new Cyclamine jersey for the points leader, Amanda Spratt (Mitchelton Scott) still wears the Green jersey, Sofia Bertizzolo (Astana Women’s Team) is again the best into the young riders classification and Elisa Longo Borghini (Wiggle High5) is the best Italian rider. MARIANNE VOS TORNA “A RUGGIRE” SULLE STRADE DEL GIRO ROSA

Marianne Vos è tornata! L’autentica fuoriclasse del ciclismo in rosa ha conquistato un meritato trionfo nell’ottava frazione del “Giro Rosa U.C.I. WWT”, la San Giorgio di Perlena (Fara Vicentino)-Breganze di 126,2 chilometri. La campionessa europea in carica, già tre volte dominatrice della corsa di patron Rivolta ed assente nelle ultime tre edizioni, ha battuto allo sprint la piemontese di Ornavasso Elisa Longo Borghini (Wiggle High5) e la connazionale del Team Sunweb Lucinda Brand, con le quali si era avvantaggiata nei chilometri finali di gara, dopo il G.P.M. di San Giorgio di Perlena collocato ad una decina di chilometri dalla conclusione.

La corsa è stata particolarmente selettiva fin dalle battute iniziali, a causa del ritmo folle imposto dal gruppo sulle due scalate verso la “mitica” Rosina. L’azione decisiva, però, è andata a segno negli ultimi chilometri, grazie alla bella azione del terzetto che si è poi giocato in volata il successo. La volata del gruppo maglia rosa, attardato di 23 secondi dalle fuggitive di giornata, è andata alla due volte iridata Giorgia Bronzini (Cylance Pro Cycling), davanti alla trevigiana di Cimadolmo Soraya Paladin (Alè Cipollini) ed alla leader della classifica giovani Sofia Bertizzolo (Astana Women’s Team).

Nessun cambiamento in classifica generale, dove Annemiek Van Vleuten (Mitchelton Scott) ha conservato la maglia rosa. Marianne Vos (Waowdeals Pro Cycling Team), invece, ha indossato la maglia ciclamino della graduatoria a punti, Amanda Spratt (Mitchelton Scott) ha conservato la maglia verde, Sofia Bertizzolo (Astana Women’s Team) è ancora la migliore tra le giovani, mentre Elisa Longo Borghini (Wiggle High5) è la più forte tra le italiane. VAN VLEUTEN “CYCLONE” AT GIRO ROSA

Annemiek Van Vleuten arrived as a cyclone on today’s stage of 29 “Giro Rosa U.C.I. WWT”. The time trial World Champion favourite number one for the victory at the race of Giuseppe Rivolta, triumphed at the individual uphill trial of 15 km from Lanzada to Dam of Campo Moro, in the amazing panorama of Valtellina. The Dutch champion of Mitchelton Scott won with an incredible gap on the second one, the South African Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio (Cervelo-Bigla Pro Cycling) at 2’29’’and the third one Lucinda Brand of Team Sunweb, who lost 2’54’’. Very interesting final times for Italians Elisa Longo Borghini (Wiggle High5) and Alice Maria Arzuffi (Bizkaia Durango Euskadi), 6^th and 7^th at the finish.

With this victory Van Vleuten is now leading the general classification of “Giro Rosa”, just before her teammate Amanda Spratt. Third is Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio. Dutch Kirsten Wild (Wiggle-High5) still wears Cyclamine jersey, Amanda Spratt the Green one, the Italian coming from Veneto Sofia Bertizzolo (Astana Women’s Team)  is the strongest of youngsters (wearing the White jersey), Elisa Longo Borghini (Wiggle High5) from Ornavasso, today finished sixth, is again the best Italian rider and she wears the Blue jersey. IL “CICLONE” VAN VLEUTEN SI E’ ABBATTUTO SUL GIRO ROSA

Il “ciclone” Annemiek Van Vleuten si è abbattuto sull’edizione numero 29 del “Giro Rosa U.C.I. WWT”. La campionessa del mondo in carica contro il tempo, favorita numero uno alla vigilia della corsa di patron Giuseppe Rivolta, ha letteralmente dominato la cronoscalata individuale di 15 chilometri da Lanzada fino alle Dighe di Campo Moro, nella magnifica scenografia offerta dalla splendida Valtellina. La fuoriclasse olandese del Mitchelton Scott ha relegato a distacchi abissali tutte le rivali, partendo dalla sudafricana Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio (Cervelo-Bigla Pro Cycling), staccata di 2’29’’. Il podio è stato completato dalla rappresentante del Team Sunweb Lucinda Brand, che ha pagato un ritardo di 2’54’’. Ottime prestazioni delle azzurre Elisa Longo Borghini (Wiggle High5) ed Alice Maria Arzuffi (Bizkaia Durango Euskadi), che hanno chiuso la loro prova rispettivamente al sesto ed al nono posto.

Grazie a questi risultati la Van Vleuten è balzata prepotentemente in testa alla classifica generale del “Giro Rosa”, precedendo la compagna di squadra Amanda Spratt ed Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio. L’olandese Kirsten Wild (Wiggle-High5) ha conservato la maglia ciclamino, Amanda Spratt veste la maglia verde, la veneta dell’Astana Women’s Team Sofia Bertizzolo è la più forte tra le giovani, mentre la piemontese di Ornavasso Elisa Longo Borghini (Wiggle High5), oggi sesta al traguardo, è ancora la migliore tra le italiane. AMAZING SHOW AT THE FIRST UPHILL FINISH OF GIRO ROSA

A lot of emotions today at the first uphill finish of “29° Giro Rosa U.C.I. WWT” at Gerola Alta: Amanda Spratt (Mitchelton Scott) wins after 114,10km. The stage has started from Sovico, homecity of the boss Giuseppe Rivolta at the presence of Davide Cassani (coach of Italian Men National Cycling team), Claudio Chiappucci (ex pro) and Justine Mattera, a showgirl fan of cyclism. The favourite teams controlled few attacks and the one tried by Jessica Parra (Servetto – Stradalli Alurecycling) has been caught near the intermediate sprint in Delebio, won by Riejanne Markus (Waowdeals Pro Cycling) before Dani King. Elisa Longo Borghini, Wiggle High5 captain, has had mechanical troubles in the flat part of the stage: she had to change three times her bike before restarting. Mitchelton Scott and Canyon-Sram have worked hard for Annemiek Van Vleuten and Kasia Niewiadoma, their captains.

At the start of the GPM of the day, Longo Borghini closed the gap and leaded the race with the hill climbers of Cervelo Bigla Ashleigh Moolman Pasio and Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig. The Pink jersey Ruth Winder dropped off since the first km of the climb and at 4 km to the finish, Kasia Niewiadoma, Moolman, Van Vleuten and Spratt tried to escape. The Australian of Mitchelton  Scott leaded the front group with some meters on  Merino (Movistar), Uttrup Ludwig (Cervelo), Niewiadoma (Canyon – SRAM) and Van Vleuten (Mitchelton – Scott). Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig tried to chase her, but Spratt has been really concerned today and won just before her mate team Van Vleuten and South African Moolman – Pasio (Cervelo Bigla). Tomorrow the 7^th stage, Lanzada-Diga di Campo Moro, a trial of 15 km with more than 1000m of height difference which could change again the overall classification. (Photos of Flaviano Ossola)

LE PRIME MONTAGNE DEL GIRO ROSA REGALANO UN GRANDE SHOW

Arrivano le Alpi ed ecco i primi colpi di scena al 29° Giro Rosa: La Sovico – Gerola Alta, tappa con arrivo in salita di 114.1 km, ha visto il trionfo di Amanda Spratt (Mitchelton-Scott), al termine di una grande frazione ricca di emozioni. Si parte da Sovico, città del Patron del Giro Giuseppe Rivolta dove alla partenza erano presenti tra gli altri Davide Cassani (CT della Nazionale Italiana di ciclismo maschile), Claudio Chiappucci (ex pro) e la showgirl Justine Mattera, grande appassionata di ciclismo. Le squadre delle favorite non hanno permesso gli svariati tentativi di attacco, andati tutti a vuoto, incluso quello della colombiana Jessica Parra (Servetto – Stradalli Alurecycling), ripresa nei pressi del traguardo volante di Delebio, vinto da Riejanne Markus (Waowdeals Pro Cycling) sulla britannica Dani King. Elisa Longo Borghini, capitana delle Wiggle High5, ha difficoltà nel tratto di pianura che la costringono a sostituire più volte la bicicletta, mentre Mitchelton-Scott e Canyon-Sram lavorano per Annemiek Van Vleuten e Kasia Niewiadoma, le proprie capitane.

Ad inizio salita il gruppo resta compatto ed Elisa torna in gruppo e poi prende il largo insieme ad altre undici atlete, incluse le due scalatrici della Cervelo – Bigla Ashleigh Moolman – Pasio e Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig. Perde terreno quasi subito la Maglia Rosa di Ruth Winder, che comunque riesce a gestire le forze salendo con il proprio passo. ai – 4 attacca Kasia Niewiadoma, seguita da Moolman, Van Vleuten e Spratt, che contrattacca poco dopo. L’australiana della Mitchelton – Scott guadagna subito alcuni metri sulle avversarie e al suo inseguimento sono in quattro: Merino (Movistar), Uttrup Ludwig (Cervelo), Niewiadoma (Canyon – SRAM) e Van Vleuten (Mitchelton – Scott).
